Hays County’s outside expert engineers looked at the county’s 2016 and 2021 Transportation Plans, documents that outline the county’s transportation goals.

During those planning processes, extensive public involvement was done to assess the needs and opinions of citizens. In 2021, residents reported that they spent too much time in traffic, and that it’s difficult to travel within the county. In response to this, a majority of projects in Proposition A are east - west connectors, which will give drivers alternate routes to I-35 and other major roads in the region.

Regional planning documents, like the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization’s 2045 Plan, as well as local municipal transportation plans, were also included.

After gathering data, a list of projects aimed at ensuring the county’s infrastructure keeps pace with rapid population growth and development emerged.

The Hays County Commissioners Court wants voters to have the final say on these projects in the upcoming election.
